Asthenia and the Critical:The Work of Ian Charlesworth, 1997-2004

This is a catalogue essay for Golden Thread Gallery, Belfast and Studio Lipoli & Lopez, Rome. The essay links debates around the legacy of late modernism to the cultural and political complexities of conflict in Northern Ireland. The asthenia of the title refers to Kira Muratova's film, 'The Asthenic Syndrome' (1989), a key work of Glasnost cinema.
